Principal scientist specializes in Protected Agriculture and Hydroponics production systems. Currently, he is a consultant for international research organizations and private institutions for different projects.

Previously, he was the Regional Coordinator of ICARDA’s regional program for the Arabian Peninsula from 1998 to 2012, and concurrently the Regional Director of the regional program for Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) under The World Vegetable Center-AVRDC from 2010 to 2012.

He possesses more than 40 years of experience in research and development, teaching, extension & technology transfer and project management in a wide variety of countries. From the western hemisphere, he has worked in Ireland (University College Dublin), Canada (Sprung Environmental Space Enclosure Center), United Kingdom (Soilless Cultivation Systems Ltd.) and American University in Cairo.

From the Middle East, he has worked in Egypt (Desert Development Center, Kuwait (Public Authority for Agricultural and Fish Resources), and Qatar (Agricultural and Water Research Dept., Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture), in addition to ICARDA and AVRDC in UAE and SAIC& SARSTC in Qatar.

His research agenda and expertise include production systems and techniques for High-Value Crops (HVC), soilless culture (hydroponics), protected cultivation, plant nutrition, water use efficiency, integrated production and protection management, and food security. He has published scientific papers, technical reports, and training manuals on these subjects. It helped him to develop and implement different projects on high-value crops to enhance food security and water productivity in the GCC countries, Afghanistan, Yemen and Quetta, Baluchistan.

He holds a Postgraduate Degree from University College Dublin and a Ph.D. Degree from University College Dublin (UCD).
